Why do Students Come to Emmanuel?
By Erin C. Layton, Director of Recruitment

Throughout Emmanuel’s history, students have come to Emmanuel for a myriad of reasons, ranging from our reputation of preparing students for a lifetime of ministry to our academic reputation to the sense of true community that students experience while attending Emmanuel.

Much like the first class, newly enrolled students today know that the Emmanuel faculty are among the top in their fields. Students today are given the opportunity to study under professors who, through their own passion for scholarship and ministry, inspire excellence both in the classroom and in ministry. Emmanuel’s faculty has a way of instilling not just knowledge, but passion for the church that they demonstrate daily.

Many students first hear of Emmanuel through one of our alumni, many of whom are currently serving the church locally and around the world. The people that have created the legacy that is Emmanuel consistently tell stories of how their time studying in East Tennessee helped prepare them for a lifetime of ministry. Prospective students familiar with these people see their passion for doing God’s work, which Emmanuel helped to foster, and want to draw from the same well that their mentors continue to utilize. They come because they know they will receive high quality ministry experience and training that will help them for years in their own ministries.

Finally, students come because of the community at Emmanuel. It is in the classroom, in the hallways, in the Village, and in the area churches and ministries that students build relationships with people they will continue to work with throughout their lives.
